On Thursday, I went to dinner with a publicist at one of the restaurants she is doing PR for. It was GREAT to finally connect in person. She’s been asking me to meet for months but my busy schedule of theater tickets never let up. I wish more publicists did this. We build a better relationship that way and in turn, the stories we brainstorm together are better. We went to HaSalon which apparently has been in the theater district for a few years now. It’s on 50th and 10th Avenue, which is a little further west from most places I eat at before shows. But, I never can find restaurants up in the 50s for when I see shows at the Neil Simon (52nd), August Wilson (52nd) or Broadway Theatre (54th), so it was a nice change of pace. It’s a great spot if you make a reservation for 6pm ahead of an 8pm curtain. But please make sure to tell your server and put in the res notes that you have a show! I don’t suggest eating here for 7pm curtains.
We got to try several dishes. I am obsessed with the blue tuna tartare. I also tried the gazpacho, general salad, shrimp spaghetti, octopus.

NYC Outdoor Dining
I also re-shared this Instagram reel featuring some of my fav go-to outdoor dining spots. What are some of yours?
PRESS DAY for IMMEDIATE FAMILY
I also was invited to attend the press day for the new comedy, Immediate Family. It’s a play written by Paul Oakley and directed by Phylicia Rashad, fresh off winning Best Play at the Tony Awards for Purpose. The cast features: Andy Mientus, Christina Sajous, Elijah Jones, Freddie Fulton, Britney Coleman, Kai Almeda Heath. If you’re in the Charlotte, NC area, it makes its regional premiere at Blumenthal Arts July 29 through August 31 in the Booth Playhouse. Tickets are on sale now at blumenthalarts.org. This is the same theater where so many Jimmy Award winners come from! The goal to get to Broadway.
I’ll share something about the event. My camera died in the middle of it. Yep. I haven’t one-man-banded in over a DECADE. This is why we need dedicated reporters and dedicated photographers. Or, maybe I just use my phone next time? I need a set up though to hook up a microphone and a tripod for it.
WHAT I’M PITCHING:
I am actively trying to break into more travel writing. Most of you might have seen this piece I did on Millburn, NJ in Time Out New York. I was invited on a cruise next month but without a confirmed story, I cannot accept the trip. I have the story idea just not getting any takers from media outlets. I am also looking ahead to the fall Broadway season. I’d love to interview Lea Michele about Chess and cover Hamilton’s 10th anniversary. Plus, I have a profile coming out in September’s print issue of NJ Monthly magazine. So if you have NJ story ideas, send them my way!
